The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Friday issued a rain and snowfall alert in Punjab from February 1 to 3, 2026.
The PDMA predicted that Murree, Galiyat, and its adjacent areas will receive rain and snowfall, and the Potohar region, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, and Gujranwala will also receive rain
The alert was issued to the local government, the health department of Punjab, the police, and the transport department.
PDMA Director-General Irfan Ali Kathia directed all relevant departments to ensure full preparedness in line with the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
“All arrangements must be completed in advance to effectively handle any emergencies”, the DG stressed.
Special instructions have been issued to the district administration in Murree and allied departments to remain on high alert.
He advised tourists to adopt precautionary measures while visiting Murree.
Emergency control rooms have been instructed to operate with staff on 24-hour duty, while Rescue 1122 disaster response teams are on high alert to enable immediate action in case of any untoward incidents.
In response to the prevailing forecast, the Murree administration has established facilitation centers at various locations to provide timely guidance and assistance to visitors during adverse weather.
The PDMA spokesperson urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel in bad weather and strictly follow the issued precautionary measures.
In case of any emergency, citizens can immediately contact the PDMA Punjab helpline at 1129.
The spokesman highlighted that the situation was being closely monitored, and all relevant agencies remain fully mobilized to ensure public safety across the province.
Separately, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a comprehensive weather advisory for the coming week, forecasting severe cold conditions and precipitation across several regions, and has directed relevant relief agencies to ensure rapid mobilization.
According to the advisory issued by the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) for January 31 to February 4, cold and dry weather was expected across Punjab, while light rain and snowfall were likely in Murree, the Galiyat and the Potohar region between January 31 and February 3.
Similar cold and dry conditions are forecast for most of Balochistan from January 30 to February 1, with northern and central mountainous areas expecting light precipitation.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while plains will remain cold and dry, upper and northern districts may experience intermittent rain and snowfall from January 30 to February 3.
Sindh is also likely to experience cold, dry weather with fog in several areas. Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir are expected to remain very cold and cloudy from January 30 to February 3, with snowfall in upper regions continuing until February 4.
The NDMA has specifically warned that rain and snowfall in several areas-including Chitral, Dir, Kalam, Naran, Kaghan, Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum Valley-could trigger avalanches and landslides in mountainous terrain. This precipitation also raises the risk of road blockades and disruption to traffic, particularly in hilly areas where roads may become slippery.
The NEOC is actively monitoring the situation and ensuring the advance dissemination of information to all relevant authorities.
Authorities have strongly advised the public, especially travellers, to exercise extreme caution. Movement in mountainous regions should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
Those who must travel are urged to ensure their vehicles are equipped with snow chains, extra fuel, and essential supplies, and to avoid using worn tyres.
