
The final investigation report into the Gul Plaza fire confirms 79 deaths, mostly on the mezzanine floor. The report was prepared by a committee led by the Karachi Commissioner and Additional IG. The findings will be submitted to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
Sources said the report details the causes of the fire, firefighting efforts, and rescue operations. It also includes information from victims, eyewitnesses, and rescue officials. The blaze started on the ground floor in a flower shop and spread rapidly.

Investigators noted that air-conditioning ducts contributed to the fire’s spread. The fire broke out at 10:15 p.m., while the fire brigade received the alert at 10:26 p.m. The Deputy Commissioner arrived at 10:30 p.m., the first fire tender reached at 10:37 p.m., and Rescue 1122 personnel arrived at 10:53 p.m.
Opposition leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the inquiry process. Pakistan Peoples Party leader Ali Khursheedi called for a judicial inquiry. He questioned how the Karachi Commissioner could lead an investigation into a tragedy under his administration.

The report’s release follows widespread criticism of the government’s handling of the incident. Sources said rebuilding Gul Plaza may take at least two years. Meanwhile, the Sindh cabinet approved one crore rupees compensation for each victim’s family.
