Lashkari Raisani urges unity against political opportunism

Senator Mir Lashkari Raisani Emphasizes Political Unity and Public Awareness Drive – https://www.dailyindependent.com.pk

Former senator Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Khan Raisani on Tuesday called on political workers in Balochistan to rise above internal divisions and strengthen collective political awareness to counter what he described as “political opportunism.”

Speaking to a delegation of students led by Pashtun Educational Development Council Chairman Shams Kakar in Quetta, Mr Raisani emphasised that political struggle should be guided by shared wisdom, public support and a long-term vision rather than short-term personal gains. He said unity among political workers was essential to safeguard democratic values and protect the interests of future generations.

“The ultimate purpose of politics is to ensure dignity, security and prosperity for coming generations,” Mr Raisani said, adding that political movements lose their credibility when internal rifts and opportunism overshadow public welfare.

During the meeting, the student delegation invited the former senator to attend a cultural festival scheduled to be held on February 14 at Islamia University, Bahawalpur. Mr Raisani welcomed the invitation and praised student-led initiatives that promote cultural harmony and political awareness.

He said he was striving for the establishment of a peaceful and transparent political system in Balochistan, aimed at addressing decades-long issues of exploitation, injustice, deprivation and marginalisation. According to him, sustainable peace and development could only be achieved through inclusive politics rooted in public participation and accountability.

Mr Raisani reiterated that he had never supported acquiring power through what he termed “backdoor arrangements,” stressing that such practices weakened democratic institutions and eroded public trust. He maintained that genuine political legitimacy must stem from the will of the people rather than behind-the-scenes deals.

Drawing comparisons with global political systems, he said political parties and governments in developed societies focused their policies on ensuring the survival, dignity and prosperity of future generations. He added that in such societies, political goals were centred on economic empowerment, social justice and institutional stability.

He urged political workers, particularly youth and students, to remain vigilant and play an active role in shaping a responsible political culture in the province.
