The 22-year-old Spaniard dazzled with his athleticism, including a remarkable rally where he chased down a lob with a tweener before hitting a precise passing shot. Alcaraz, chasing a first title at Melbourne Park, looks unstoppable in his pursuit to become the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam.
In the women’s draw, Aryna Sabalenka extended her unbeaten record in tiebreaks to 21, defeating Russia-born Anastasia Potapova 7-6(4), 7-6(7) in a tough encounter. The win sets up a fourth-round clash against Canadian Victoria Mboko, who upset 14th seed Clara Tauson 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 to reach the last 16 on her main-draw debut. Sabalenka admitted her focus in tiebreaks is critical: “You cannot lose focus for a second because it’s gone really quickly,” she said.
