
QUETTA: The Balochistan government announced a new People’s Train Service connecting Quetta and Kuchlak, releasing Rs1.4 billion for the project. The announcement came during a meeting between Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi. Officials said the initiative aims to provide affordable, safe, and quality travel for residents.
The agreement marks a joint venture between Pakistan Railways and the provincial government to restore and develop local railway projects. Federal Minister Abbasi described it as a historic step, highlighting the strong trust and cooperation between the federation and Balochistan. Officials said this is the first time a provincial government has taken the lead in such railway initiatives in Pakistan’s 78-year history.

CM Bugti said the funds would support construction of new railway stations and upgrades to existing infrastructure. The project will build on the success of the Sariab to Kuchlak People’s Train Service and aims to expand routes in the future. Plans include extending services to Mastung, Pishin, and other parts of Balochistan.
The federal minister praised Balochistan’s initiative, noting that other provinces have expressed interest in similar local railway services. He called the Quetta-Kuchlak project a milestone in enhancing regional transport and improving public mobility across the province.

Officials said the project is expected to boost economic activity, create jobs, and provide residents with a reliable alternative to road travel, strengthening connectivity within Balochistan while encouraging provincial development.
