The discovery was made at the Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well, operated under the Nashpa Exploration License. OGDCL reported that testing in the Samana Suk and Shinawari formations yielded promising results, with a flow rate of 3,100 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 8.15 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas through a 32/64-inch choke at a wellhead pressure of 3,010 pounds per square inch gauge (PSIG).

Within a month of the test, the company added 9,480 BOPD, contributing roughly 14.5 percent of Pakistan’s domestic crude oil production, which currently stands near 66,000 BOPD.
The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was spudded on December 30, 2024, to explore the hydrocarbon potential across multiple formations, including Lockhart, Hangu, Lumshiwal, Samana Suk, Shinawari, Datta, and Kingriali. The well was successfully drilled to a total depth of 5,170 metres into the Kingriali Formation.
