Turning 61 this year, Sophie has long been described as the royal family’s “secret weapon,” a nod to her steadfast support and low-profile contributions over decades. In a recent interview with The Mirror, she reflected on the title with her characteristic humor.

“I like to fly under the radar. It’s all very well being a secret weapon, but if no one knows, maybe it’s too secret,” Sophie said. She added, “I suppose I should take it as a backhanded compliment. I don’t see myself in a frontline position.”
The Duchess acknowledged that, with fewer active working royals today, her public profile has naturally increased. “I suppose more and more I’m becoming less secretive. I just wonder what they are going to describe me as next!” she said.
When asked how she would describe herself, Sophie replied thoughtfully: “I don’t know, I am going to leave that for others. It would be very presumptuous for me to suggest something that could go badly wrong.”
Prince Edward’s wife has been praised for her unwavering loyalty to King Charles and her discreet yet impactful contributions to royal duties. Her work behind the scenes has been widely appreciated by both the monarchy and the public, earning her recognition in this form.
