Punjab Sahulat Bazaars provide jobs to 9,200 people

Published on: January 19, 2026 2:47 PM

LAHORE: Punjab’s 46 Sahulat Bazaars have provided employment opportunities to 9,200 people, officials said on Sunday, highlighting the economic and social impact of the government-run initiative. The bazaars, offering subsidized essential food items, have become a vital source of livelihood while easing the cost of living for residents.

The Sahulat Bazaar project is Punjab’s first government-led scheme offering free home delivery of high-quality food products at reduced rates. Currently operational in 35 cities, the bazaars allow citizens to order daily-use items without paying any delivery charges. Prices of 13 essential commodities are up to 7 per cent lower than officially notified rates, providing direct financial relief to consumers.

Over the past year, the bazaars recorded around 85 million visits, with total purchases reaching Rs42.5 billion. Essential items, including fruits, vegetables, and other daily staples, were offered at wholesale prices, saving consumers an estimated Rs1.1 billion.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced plans to open 30 additional Sahulat Bazaars by June 30 and instructed authorities to gradually establish them in every tehsil of the province. She said the initiative ensures easy access to affordable, quality food while supporting local employment and reinforcing the government’s commitment to public welfare.

Officials noted that the initiative not only addresses rising inflation but also creates dignified jobs for thousands, ranging from sales staff to delivery personnel. With continued expansion, the government aims to strengthen both the economic and social impact of Sahulat Bazaars across Punjab.
