This decision follows a fuel price cut at the start of January, when petrol was reduced by Rs10.28 per litre and diesel by Rs8.57, offering temporary relief to consumers and transporters alike.
Officials explained that keeping fuel rates steady allows the market to adjust to global oil price trends and provides predictability for businesses, transport sectors, and households planning their expenses.

Analysts noted that the government’s move reflects a cautious approach, balancing domestic consumer relief with fiscal stability, as international oil prices continue to fluctuate in recent weeks.
The Ministry emphasized that fuel pricing will be reviewed regularly, and any future changes will be communicated in advance, ensuring transparency and minimizing sudden shocks to the economy and public.
