Santa Monica Studio has rolled out a new update for God of War Ragnarok, marking the first patch for the acclaimed PlayStation exclusive in nearly a year. The update comes as a surprise to fans, many of whom believed post-launch support for the 2022 title had effectively concluded after the 2023 Valhalla expansion and the 2025 Anniversary update.

The latest patch — version 6.06 — is available exclusively for PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. Unlike previous updates that added gameplay content, balance tweaks or quality-of-life changes, this patch focuses solely on integrating compatibility with Sony’s Power Saver mode, a feature that reduces power consumption on supported titles.
Power Saver mode slightly diminishes system performance while running games, but is designed to operate without disrupting the core experience. With the update, Ragnarok can now function efficiently under the feature without compromising its combat sequences, cinematic pacing, or traversal-heavy environments.
Other first-party PlayStation titles have received similar updates in recent months as Sony continues to optimize its library for energy-saving operation. Ragnarok now joins that list, although fans hoping for additional story content or enhancements will not find anything new in this patch.
Because version 6.06 does not include bug fixes, gameplay changes, or performance upgrades, some industry watchers believe this could represent the final update for the title — barring future platform-level features that may require further support.

Despite being largely invisible in practice, the update signals ongoing backend support for one of PlayStation’s most critically acclaimed releases. As it stands, Kratos’ journey remains untouched, with its world, narrative, and combat encounters preserved exactly as players last experienced them — just with a quieter power footprint.
