DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed board director Najmul Islam following controversial remarks that sparked player protests. Cricketers had threatened to boycott matches after Islam claimed Bangladesh would not compensate players if they skipped the T20 World Cup in India.
Najmul Islam, chairman of the BCB’s finance committee, had said the board spends large sums on players despite poor performances and would not seek refunds from them. He argued that missing the World Cup would hurt players financially, but not the board.

Following the boycott threat, BCB reviewed the situation and decided to relieve Islam of his duties. The board stated the decision was taken in line with BCB regulations and in the best interest of Bangladesh cricket.
BCB confirmed that the president of the board will temporarily assume the finance committee’s leadership. The board urged players to continue participating professionally in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to ensure the tournament’s continuity.
