A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi was held to review progress on the Safe Cities Project, during which officials presented a detailed briefing on various aspects of the initiative.
The chief minister directed authorities to further accelerate work on the project and ensure its completion within the stipulated timelines. He also instructed relevant departments to promptly complete groundwork for extending the Safe Cities Project to remaining divisional headquarters and merged districts, and to present workable proposals for the establishment of a Safe Cities Authority.
Emphasizing the special needs of merged districts, the chief minister stressed the provision of 24-hour solar energy to support the Safe Cities infrastructure in these areas.
The meeting was informed that the Peshawar Safe City Project is scheduled for completion by January 31, 2026.
According to the briefing, under the Safe Cities Project, modern surveillance cameras are being installed at 88 locations in Dera Ismail Khan, 76 in Bannu, and 47 in Lakki Marwat, with completion also targeted for January 31, 2026.
It was further shared that PC-I documents have been prepared for Karak, Tank, and North Waziristan, where cameras will be installed at 45 locations in Tank, 40 in Karak, and 37 in North Waziristan. In Peshawar, a total of 711 modern cameras are being installed at 133 locations, including 88 ANPR cameras, 84 facial recognition cameras, 376 general surveillance cameras, five thermal cameras, and 80 body cameras.
The briefing revealed that 80 percent of pole installation work has been completed, cameras have already been installed at 46 locations, and 85 percent work on the command and control center has been finalized.
The meeting was also informed that surveys for making merged districts Safe Cities have been completed and that the entire province will be transformed into Safe Cities in phases. Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi said that maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens’ lives and property are the government’s top priorities. He described the Safe Cities Project as a major milestone toward sustainable peace and public safety, adding that the technology-driven system would play a vital role in crime prevention and restoration of peace. He further noted that the Safe City system would significantly enhance the capacity of police and other law enforcement.
