After the organizational consultation from representatives of 52 districts and 72 tehsils across the country under the Electronic Media Reporters Association (EMRA) Pakistan, Muhammad Asif Butt, President of EMRA Lahore, has been unanimously elected as the Central President of EMRA Pakistan for three years.
This decision was announced by the body comprising the representative for the cities of Lahore, Okara, Layyah, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Vehari, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Bhakkar, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Mirpur, Kot Addu, Lodhran, DG Khan, Pakpattan, Gujrat, Abbottabad, Muzaffargarh, Chenot, Narowal, Sargodha, Mianwali, Pishin, Qila Abdullah (Gulistan), and representation from Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Balochistan, and Islamabad Capital.
Similarly, the leadership of EMRA, associated with important cities and areas across the country, including Karachi, Nawabshah, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Quetta Cantt, Sariab, Hazara Town, Jinnah Town, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Gilgit, Chilas, Skardu, Muzaffarabad, and Bagh, endorsed this election.
In the meeting, the presidents and secretaries of eight provincial EMRAs across the country jointly expressed their confidence in Muhammad Asif Butt and elected him as the central president.
On this occasion, the establishment of the EMRA Foundation and EMRA Federation was also officially announced to effectively fight for the welfare, professional protection, and rights of journalists, reporters, anchors, analysts, and media workers associated with electronic media across Pakistan.
The advisory council boards of these institutions will include Pakistan’s most senior journalists, anchors, and analysts.
The meeting emphasized that to strengthen the organizational structure of EMRA, bodies should be formed at provincial, divisional, district, and tehsil levels across the country. The reporters and stringers (SSRs) working at district and tehsil levels should be given adequate representation in divisional and provincial bodies.
Thanking the district and tehsil-level leadership, he said that EMRA Pakistan will be the voice of every electronic media worker and the rights of journalists will not be compromised under any circumstances.
