Local market sources reported that one kilogram of flour, previously priced between Rs95 and Rs100, is now being sold for Rs130 to Rs135 per kilogram. Similarly, a 15-kilogram bag of flour has risen to Rs1,850 in open markets. Buyers say the increase has occurred without any official notification or explanation from the government.
Residents have voiced frustration over the abrupt price hike, saying it adds a significant financial burden on households. Hafiz Waheed, a local consumer, described the situation as “unjustified” and criticized the provincial and district administrations for failing to provide prior information or control the price surge.
Market analysts attribute the rise to supply chain disruptions and rising wheat costs, although no official statement has been issued to confirm these factors. Traders say that while demand has remained consistent, fluctuations in wheat procurement and milling expenses have been passed directly to consumers.
The sudden price increase has also raised concerns about potential inflationary pressures in the city, with residents urging authorities to monitor markets closely and ensure affordable access to essential commodities.
