Punjab Police on Friday held the annual awards ceremony of its pilot project, Tahaffuz Darsgah, for transgender children, during which awards were distributed among students for outstanding academic performance.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, transgender students including Wafa Abbas, Royan and others were honoured for their remarkable achievements in the field of education. The ceremony was attended by In-Charge Tahaffuz Centre Liberty Asma Rehman, In-Charge Meesaq Centre Farhan Parvez, and Victim Support Officers Kashish Khan, Masooma Rana and Anza Khanzadi.

Head of Teaching Staff Anam Zubair, Admin Officer Imran Bhatti, along with Sharjeel Mehmood, Sharjina Taimoor, Rubina Khan and Syeda Nosheen Naqvi were also present on the occasion.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, while appreciating the award-winning students, said that the academic success of transgender children reflected the safe, supportive and constructive environment provided at Tahaffuz Darsgah. He said that the initiative served as a secure shelter for homeless, orphaned and displaced transgender children by providing accommodation, food and quality education.

The IGP Punjab said that Tahaffuz Darsgah aimed at empowering transgender children by building their confidence and ensuring a bright future through education, training and other essential facilities. He added that Punjab Police, in collaboration with the British organisation UK Curriculum and Accreditation Body, was providing modern educational services at the institution.

The spokesperson further said that Tahaffuz Darsgah, operating under the supervision of Punjab Police, was the country’s first institution to offer quality education to transgender children, who were equally talented and capable as other students. The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting to mark the New Year.
