
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s 100-year-old former prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad, was Hospitalized on Tuesday after suffering a fall at his residence, his aide confirmed to AFP. Mahathir, who has experienced health issues in recent years, was admitted to the National Heart Institute for observation following the incident.

“He’s conscious. I don’t know whether he’ll be admitted or not for now. That’s still too early to say,” said aide Sufi Yusoff. He added that Mahathir fell while moving from one part of the balcony to the living room, but declined to provide further details on his condition.
The former premier has a history of heart problems and has previously undergone bypass surgeries. In July 2025, he was briefly hospitalised for fatigue following a picnic celebration of his 100th birthday. Despite his age, Mahathir has remained a prominent figure in Malaysian politics.

Mahathir served as Malaysia’s prime minister from 1981 to 2003 and again from 2018 to 2020. During his second term, he reached the age of 94, making him the world’s oldest elected leader at the time. His long political career has left a significant mark on the country’s governance and development.
Authorities and family members are monitoring his condition closely, with further updates expected as doctors complete their assessments. Mahathir’s hospitalisation comes amid ongoing discussions in Malaysia about elder care and public health provisions for senior leaders and citizens.
