Violent assault in Bajaur injures 3, kills local resident

Published on: January 3, 2026 5:30 PM

A terrorist attack on a police post in Bajaur’s Barang tehsil killed one man and injured three others, including two policemen. The incident occurred around 2am in the hilly Kohi Sar area, 22 kilometres from Khar. Authorities launched an immediate clearance operation with security forces and local police following the attack.

Police identified the deceased as 60-year-old local resident Naseem Gul. The injured included Constable Suliman Khan, 35, Constable Saz Muhammad, 58, and 28-year-old school watchman Sahibzada. All injured were taken to the District Headquarter Hospital in Khar, where their condition remained stable. Local officials said terrorists used both heavy and light weapons during the assault.

The district police spokesperson, Israr Khan, said the area was secured after the joint security operation. Authorities are investigating the identities of the attackers and their possible links to militant groups. Residents in nearby villages were advised to remain cautious while the operation continued. Security forces also increased patrolling to prevent further attacks.

Despite a record number of militant deaths in Pakistan, 2025 saw a sharp rise in terrorist incidents. The Pak Institute for Peace Studies recorded 699 attacks nationwide, with 1,034 fatalities and 1,366 injuries. Experts link the increase in militancy to regional instability after the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021.

Officials warned that the rising violence poses risks to civilians and security personnel. Authorities continue counter-terrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other vulnerable areas. They urged citizens to report suspicious activities and cooperate with security forces to maintain safety.
