Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday directed newly appointed Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho to intensify efforts to curb street crime in Karachi, stressing that the issue directly affects public confidence and the overall sense of security.
The directive was issued during a meeting between the chief minister and the new police chief at the CM House, shortly after Mr Odho formally assumed charge as the 86th Inspector General of Police of Sindh.

Mr Odho was appointed by the federal government and took over the provincial police command on Thursday. Prior to this assignment, he had been serving as Karachi police chief. Meanwhile, the provincial government appointed Additional Inspector General Azad Khan, who was heading the Counter-Terrorism Department, as the new Karachi police chief with immediate effect.

Congratulating Mr Odho on his new role, the chief minister instructed him to accord top priority to maintaining law and order across the province. He emphasised that ongoing operations against criminal gangs in the riverine areas must continue with full force and without any pause.
The CM also called for intensified action against street crime in Karachi, describing it as a key concern for citizens and businesses alike. He urged the police leadership to take concrete measures to restore a public-friendly image of the force and strengthen trust between law enforcement and the public.
Mr Shah further stressed the need to modernise the Sindh Police, directing that the Safe City Project be made more effective through improved surveillance, technology integration and operational efficiency. He also instructed that operations against narcotics be accelerated to curb drug abuse and trafficking.

“The government is taking comprehensive steps to strengthen the police, but visible results must be delivered,” the CM said.
IGP Odho thanked the chief minister for his guidance and assured him of his full commitment to improving law and order across Sindh.
