The Interior Ministry has announced a 15-day extension for the enforcement of M-tag regulations in Islamabad, allowing vehicles without the electronic tag to operate until January 15.
Authorities had previously set December 31 as the cutoff date for mandatory M-tag installation, but following a surge in registrations and to accommodate remaining vehicle owners, the ministry granted extra time.

So far, over 100,000 vehicles in Islamabad have successfully registered for M-tags, highlighting significant progress in the nationwide compliance drive aimed at improving traffic management and enhancing road security.
The extension is also expected to ease congestion at registration centers, as vehicle owners now have additional time to complete the process without facing fines or entry restrictions.
Interior Ministry officials stressed that while the deadline is extended, compliance remains mandatory, and authorities will resume strict enforcement after January 15, ensuring all vehicles entering the capital carry a valid M-tag.
The ministry continues coordinating with NADRA, which recently introduced facial recognition technology to simplify biometric verification, aiming to streamline the registration process and support efficient enforcement of M-tag rules.
