Lahore: Renowned businessman and sports investor Hamza Majeed, who has arrived in Pakistan from Australia, has formally entered the bidding process to acquire a new franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Expressing his strong commitment to the promotion of cricket and the country’s economy, Majeed said he aims to contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s sports landscape through the PSL platform.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Hamza Majeed stated that he traveled specially from Australia to Pakistan to take part in the PSL bidding process and to play an active role in advancing sports activities across the country. He clarified that he is bidding individually, not as part of any consortium, and intends to operate the franchise on a fully professional and modern sports management model.
“Our goal is not only to win matches but to build a strong, organized, and successful franchise,” Majeed said. “Even if success does not come immediately, our passion for sports and our mission to support cricket will continue.”
Majeed revealed that a dedicated team of experts has been working intensively on this project for the past one and a half months. He added that his previous experience includes involvement in various sports-related investments and activities in Australia and England, experience he now wishes to utilize in Pakistan.
Highlighting the importance of the PSL as a talent-nurturing platform, Majeed said the league provides young cricketers with an excellent opportunity to showcase their skills. He further announced plans to launch talent hunt programs across multiple cities to identify and develop emerging players.
“I belong to Punjab, and if we succeed in acquiring the franchise, we will consider naming the team after a city in Punjab, particularly Faisalabad or Sialkot,” he added.
Majeed also shared that he has closely followed Lahore Qalandars in the past and has been particularly impressed by their talent development model. “We will also strive to bring forward new and emerging talent and provide them with opportunities that meet international standards,” he said.
Commenting on player selection, Majeed emphasized that the draft system is the most transparent and fair method, ensuring equal opportunities for all players. He further stated that prioritizing Pakistani coaches and local talent would remain a key focus of his franchise strategy.
Concluding his remarks, Hamza Majeed said that the Pakistan Super League is not only vital for cricket but also plays a significant role in shaping Pakistan’s positive global image and strengthening the national economy. “Being part of this journey would be a matter of pride for me,” he concluded.
