China began its largest military drills around Taiwan on Monday, showcasing its ability to block foreign support in a conflict. The exercises involve dozens of aircraft, naval vessels, and missile units. Taiwan’s military is on high alert as the drills continue.
The drills, named “Justice Mission 2025,” are led by China’s Eastern Theater Command. They include blockades, live-fire exercises on land and sea, and simulated attacks on key ports. Forces are deployed in seven zones, making this the largest exercise near Taiwan to date.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense reported that 89 Chinese military aircraft, 14 warships, and 14 coast guard vessels participated. Additionally, four warships were spotted in the western Pacific. The maneuvers test China’s capability to surround and pressure Taiwan.
Officials in Taipei said Taiwan’s forces are prepared to respond immediately if exercises escalate. Rapid response drills are ready to counter any sudden attacks, ensuring defense readiness across the island. Observers say the drills send a strong message amid growing cross-strait tensions.
