
A police official was martyred when terrorists opened fire on his vehicle in Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday. The attackers fled the scene, and authorities launched a search operation. The incident highlights the rising threat to security personnel in the province.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mumtaz Ali, posted at City Police Station Tank, was traveling in a private pickup when gunmen on motorcycles intercepted him. They opened fire near Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station in Darra Pezu town. Ali was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police confirmed that the attackers escaped, and a search operation is underway in the area. Funeral prayers for ASI Mumtaz Ali were held at the police lines in the District Headquarters Complex, Tajazai. Authorities expressed condolences and vowed to strengthen security for officers in the region.
Recently, Lakki Marwat and other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have witnessed frequent attacks targeting police personnel. Just days ago, security forces killed a wanted terrorist commander, while locals and police eliminated six others in the district. These incidents reflect the ongoing security challenges since the banned TTP ended its ceasefire in 2022.
