
Two Russian police officers died in an overnight explosion in Moscow while approaching a suspicious person. The blast occurred near the site where a Russian general was killed earlier this week. Russia’s Investigative Committee confirmed the incident in a statement Wednesday.
The officers were close to their service vehicle when an explosive device detonated. Investigators said the suspect triggered the device intentionally. The committee, which handles major crimes, is leading the investigation.

Authorities cordoned off the area and launched forensic examinations. Medical and explosive analyses are underway. Witnesses told Russian television that the explosion happened around 1:30 am local time.
The incident occurred near the location where Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was killed on Monday. Sarvarov headed the Russian General Staff’s training department and was killed by a bomb under his parked car.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, several attacks have targeted military officials and pro-Kremlin figures. Kyiv has claimed responsibility for some attacks but has not commented on Monday’s incident.
