
Kate Winslet has opened up about being fat-shamed by her drama teacher during school, who told her she would have to “settle for the fat girl parts” if she wanted an acting career.
The 50-year-old actress, who rose to global fame with James Cameron’s Titanic, shared the memory on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, recalling how hurtful and discouraging such comments were for children pursuing their dreams.

Despite the harsh remark, Winslet persevered, building a remarkable career with acclaimed roles in Avatar, The Holiday, Revolutionary Road, and The Reader, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2008.
Today, Winslet has made her directorial debut with Goodbye June, marking a new chapter in her career while inspiring aspiring actors to remain resilient and overcome early criticism in their journeys.
