On the instructions of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Fire Brigade Department has set a remarkable example of unity, compassion, and interfaith harmony, sending a positive message to the entire world. This historic and heart-touching initiative is the result of the Mayor’s vision and leadership, whose commitment to humanity and inclusive public service made this noble mission possible. Under his leadership, the Fire Brigade was given the opportunity to serve society beyond emergency response duties.
This initiative was carried out by the KMC Fire Brigade with exemplary discipline, sincerity, and a high level of professional expertise. For the first time in nearly 48 years, churches across Karachi were completely cleaned and washed ahead of Christmas, including their interiors, roofs, upper structures, and outer walls-an act never witnessed before in Pakistan’s collective history.
What made this initiative truly extraordinary was the fact that Muslim firefighters cleaned Christian churches, a powerful symbol of Pakistan’s values of unity, tolerance, brotherhood, and peaceful coexistence. Going beyond their routine responsibilities, the KMC Fire Brigade undertook the comprehensive cleaning of church interiors, rooftops, upper structures, and external walls, removing years of accumulated dust and restoring the sanctity and dignity of these sacred places.
The churches included in this historic initiative were St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Trinity Cathedral, St. Andrew’s Church, Central Brooks Memorial Church, Seventh-day Adventist Church, and Christ Church on Mission Road.
Church leaders and members of the Christian community expressed heartfelt gratitude and deep appreciation for the Fire Brigade firefighters’ professionalism, integrity, and selfless service. Renowned for their bravery in emergency situations, KMC Fire Brigade firefighters are not only first responders but true ambassadors of humanity, serving without discrimination of religion, race, or background.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab paid special tribute to the officers and personnel of the Fire Brigade, stating that this initiative highlights them as frontline protectors of society, silent guardians, and moral leaders. The Christian community also extended sincere thanks to the Mayor Karachi and the KMC Fire Brigade for preparing the churches for Christmas and for delivering a strong national message of interfaith harmony, mutual respect, and unity.
The Christian community expressed hope that this noble tradition will continue, so that future generations may be inspired to place humanity above all forms of division.
In a major breakthrough aimed at transforming and fully digitalizing municipal governance, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced the launch of a secure digital correspondence system embedded with QR codes. This landmark initiative is designed to ensure authenticity, transparency, and efficiency in all official communications and will come into effect on December 22, 2025.
Under the new system, all official letters, notices, and communications issued by KMC will carry a unique QR code that can be verified by anyone, anywhere. This step will not only streamline internal processes but will also enable citizens, institutions, and stakeholders to instantly verify the authenticity of official documents, thereby eliminating the risk of forged or fraudulent correspondence.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, while receiving a detailed briefing on the launch of the digital system, stated that KMC is moving decisively towards modern, transparent, and technology-driven governance. He emphasized that the introduction of QR-code-based correspondence is a significant step to safeguard official transactions and restore public trust in municipal documentation.
“KMC is not limited to providing municipal services alone. We are responsible for managing prime lands, recreational facilities, markets, slum abadis, and several other critical sectors. To secure official transactions, prevent misuse, and curb fraudulent practices, the adoption of a digital and verifiable correspondence system was the need of the hour,” the Mayor said.
The Mayor further directed all KMC officers and departments to strictly implement this directive without exception. He made it clear that compliance with the new digital correspondence policy is mandatory and will be enforced at all levels to ensure uniformity and effectiveness across the organization.
He added that this initiative will significantly reduce delays, enhance efficiency, and place KMC services on a fast track. “We are successfully moving towards our goal of digital transformation and today marks an important milestone in bringing the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation in line with modern governance standards,” he remarked.
The meeting was attended by SM Afzal Zaidi (PAS), Municipal Commissioner KMC, Gulzar Abro, Financial Advisor KMC, and Daniyal Siyal, Director Media KMC, along with other senior officials who were briefed on the operational framework and rollout strategy of the digital system.
KMC’s move towards digital and secure correspondence reflects its strong commitment to innovation, transparency, and improved service delivery for the citizens of Karachi. After December 22, all official letters issued without a QR code will be considered invalid.
