India’s cricket team continues to back captain Suryakumar Yadav and deputy Shubman Gill despite their recent poor run. Both players have struggled in the ongoing T20 series against South Africa. Team management remains confident they will regain form ahead of the home T20 World Cup in February.
Gill returned from a neck injury but scored just four and zero in the first two matches. He has gone 17 innings without a half-century in T20 internationals. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said the team trusts Gill’s class, citing his strong IPL record of consistent high scores.

Suryakumar has also struggled, scoring only 227 runs in his last 20 T20 innings at an average of 13.35. Ten Doeschate emphasized that backing quality leaders like Suryakumar is crucial. He added that the captain will come good at the right moment for the team.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan called the duo’s poor form concerning. He noted that Suryakumar faces pressure as captain, while Gill needs to regain confidence and shot selection. Both experts agree that their form must improve before the World Cup to secure India’s chances.

India will defend their T20 World Cup title, co-hosting with Sri Lanka from February 7. Meanwhile, the team continues to provide guidance and support to both Suryakumar and Gill. Management hopes consistent practice and strategic batting positions will help them regain peak performance.
