Pakistan has dispatched an additional 200 tons of humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka, following the devastating impact of Cyclone Ditwah. The relief shipment includes tents, blankets, quilts, mosquito nets, camping lamps, mats, life jackets, inflatable boats, medicines, and more. The consignment is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on December 13, 2025, to assist with the ongoing recovery efforts.
The decision to send the aid came after Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, visited Sri Lanka. Chaudhry met with Sri Lankan leaders in Colombo and assessed the damage caused by the cyclone. He conveyed Pakistan’s solidarity with Sri Lanka, emphasizing the country’s readiness to continue providing assistance as it recovers from the devastating effects of Cyclone Ditwah.
Chaudhry, who visited Sri Lanka on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s instructions, also held meetings with Sri Lankan Deputy Speaker Mohomed Risvi Sali and Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake. He relayed a message from Pakistan’s Prime Minister, stressing that Sri Lanka is not just a long-standing friend but a key regional partner. Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sri Lanka through every stage of recovery, helping to restore normalcy to the affected communities.
Cyclone Ditwah has triggered widespread flooding and landslides, particularly in Sri Lanka’s central and north-western regions. At least 1,812 people have died across Southeast and South Asia due to recent natural disasters. In Sri Lanka, more than two million people—nearly 10 percent of the population—have been affected by the cyclone, making it the worst natural disaster the island has faced this century.

Pakistan’s aid delivery is part of a larger regional response to the severe storms and monsoonal rains battering Southeast Asia. On December 2, 2025, the initial 200 tons of supplies were dispatched under the guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and with support from Pakistan’s military. The ongoing humanitarian efforts reflect Pakistan’s strong regional partnership and commitment to assisting its neighbors during times of crisis.
