Police said Syed Azhar Hussain Bukhari, the senator’s brother-in-law, reported that the assailants attempted to convince the occupants to open the gate. When they refused, the attackers opened fire, injuring a worker at the residence identified as Absar Ahmed. Property at the home was also damaged in the shooting.

Senator Zeeshan, who was elected to the Senate in October after the disqualification of Shibli Faraz, was not present at the residence at the time of the attack. PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spokesperson Ikram Khatana confirmed the incident, calling it a worrying development.

Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen Senator Allama Raja Nasir expressed concern in a post on X, saying he was “deeply disturbed” by the attack. While the police report mentions one injured person, Nasir’s post claimed that two individuals were wounded. He stressed the need for a transparent and thorough investigation to determine the motive and ensure accountability.

Nasir added that such attacks create a hostile environment for political voices and undermine the constitutional guarantees of freedom of speech and association. He said urgent measures were needed to protect the rights and safety of citizens, regardless of their political alignment.

The incident comes weeks after a suspected quadcopter attack targeted the home of PTI MPA Anwar Zeb Khan in Khar tehsil, injuring one of his private guards. Police have launched an investigation into Tuesday’s attack and are searching for clues to identify the perpetrators.
