As the world observes International Civil Aviation Day, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the country’s aviation sector and enhancing passenger facilities across all major airports.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the PAA said it is rapidly advancing key projects aimed at ensuring safe, efficient, and modern aviation operations nationwide.
According to the authority, the terminal expansion of Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore is progressing as planned and is expected to be completed by September 2026. Similarly, runway upgrades at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi are slated for completion in January 2026.
The PAA also announced that RNP-AR flight procedures-a technology designed to reduce weather-related delays and cancellations-will be implemented in Skardu, Gilgit, and Chitral by June 2026, subject to the findings of an ongoing consultant-led feasibility study.
The authority revealed that new greenfield airports in Dera Ismail Khan, Sukkur, and Faisalabad have entered the planning phase, marking a significant step toward expanding the country’s aviation infrastructure.
In addition, the upgrade of Skardu Airport and Phase II of the Muridke General Aviation Aerodrome are scheduled to begin next year. Further expansions, including Phase II of the Lahore Airport expansion and the final expansion stage of Karachi Airport, are integrated into the 2026 development schedule.
