ATC extends bail of Imran’s sisters in Oct 5 protest case

Published on: December 6, 2025 2:42 AM

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday extended the interim bail of Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan – sisters of the PTI founder – in a case related to violence against police during the October 5 PTI protest. Judge Manzer Ali Gill presided over the hearing, during which both sisters appeared before the court as their bail period had expired. The prosecution sought additional time to present the case record, after which the court extended their interim bail until January 16. The court also directed the prosecution to complete its arguments on the next hearing. Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan are accused of instigating party workers to engage in violent protest. Former prime minister Imran Khan’s advisor on interior and accountability, Mirza Shehzad Akbar, has been declared a proclaimed offender, Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Abbas Shah has announced. The judge has also ordered Akbar’s arrest. Despite being summoned multiple times, Akbar has reportedly failed to appear before court. The case against him was filed on the basis of allegedly controversial statements posted on X (formerly Twitter). The challan against him has also been submitted in court. Akbar, who had also remained Asset Recovery Unit chief, currently resides in the United Kingdom. On Thursday, the Government of Pakistan submitted Akbar’s extradition documents to the British High Commissioner, requesting his immediate return. Alongside Akbar, the government has also requested the return of Adil Raja, a former Pakistan Army officer who is accused of anti-state propaganda. In July this year, the former special assistant was also named a central figure in the ongoing £190 million reference case involving the now-incarcerated Khan and businessman Malik Riaz. An ATC cancelled the interim bail of PTI leader Omar Ayub in three cases linked to the May 9 violence. ATC Judge Arshad Javed passed the order after the accused failed to appear during the proceedings. The court also dismissed Omar Ayub’s application seeking exemption from personal appearance for one-day. Moreover, an ATC extended the interim bail of several PTI leaders and workers in six cases related to the May 9 violence, including the torching of the PML-N office and a container at Kalma Chowk.
