The Punjab government has decided to impose fines on individuals and businesses that spread litter in public spaces. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, focusing on the “Clean Punjab” initiative.
The CM also directed officials to submit a comprehensive plan for the “Waste-to-Value” project by mid-January. The project aims to convert garbage into energy, promoting both cleanliness and sustainable energy production in the province.

Officials briefed the CM that public feedback on the Clean Punjab campaign has been largely positive. Vehicle tracking systems and live container monitoring are being implemented, and salaries and payments for sanitation workers have been fully digitalized to ensure transparency.
Maryam Nawaz described the sanitation system as a major achievement, noting that the project started from zero and has steadily improved over time. She emphasized that a comprehensive urban and rural cleaning system should have been established years ago.
