
LAHORE: The Punjab education minister has announced a major revision to the academic calendar, confirming that matric and intermediate examinations will now be conducted after Eidul Fitr 2026.

The decision comes in response to growing concerns about student workload during Ramadan and the Eid holidays.
According to officials, matric exams were previously scheduled to begin on March 3, while the intermediate schedule had yet to be finalized. However, the minister stated that both exams will now be held following the Eidul Fitr celebrations to provide relief and a more manageable environment for students.

The move has been widely welcomed by parents and educators, who believe the adjustment will help students focus better during a month traditionally dedicated to fasting and religious activities. Authorities have also emphasized that the revised schedule will be communicated well in advance to avoid any confusion.
Meanwhile, in Karachi, strict security and administrative measures have been implemented to ensure transparency in ongoing intermediate examinations. The Karachi Commissioner has imposed Section 144 around all examination centers, restricting public movement and activities in a 200-yard radius.

Under the new directives, the restrictions will remain in place until December 30, covering the entire examination period. Exams will be held daily from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and only candidates with verified admit cards and authorized staff members will be permitted to enter the centers.
The use of mobile phones, electronic gadgets, and photocopy machines has been completely banned in the vicinity. Additionally, any form of public gathering, display of weapons, or entry of unrelated individuals has been strictly prohibited.
Law enforcement agencies have been directed to take immediate action under Section 188 against any violation of the orders.

These measures were introduced following a formal request from the Chairman of the Intermediate Board to curb cheating practices and safeguard the integrity of the examination process.
