Faf du Plessis embraces Pakistan Super League, bids farewell to IPL

South African cricketer Faf du Plessis has withdrawn from this year’s IPL to take on a “new challenge” in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He announced the decision on social media, expressing gratitude for 14 seasons in the IPL. Plessis called it a “big decision” but said he is excited about his next chapter in PSL.

The former Proteas captain said the IPL has been a significant part of his journey, allowing him to play with world-class teammates and for top franchises. He praised the fans for their unmatched passion and said he feels proud of what this chapter has meant to him.

Plessis confirmed he will join the upcoming PSL season to embrace a fresh environment and experience new opportunities. “A new country. A new environment. A new challenge,” he wrote. He added he looks forward to the famed hospitality of Pakistan and the league’s energy.

The 41-year-old has previously played two PSL seasons with Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi. He described PSL as a prominent global league with incredible talent and enthusiasm. Plessis sees this as a chance to grow as a player in a different setting.

The PSL 2026 season is expected to start in April, with Plessis set to bring his experience and leadership to the competition. Fans eagerly anticipate his debut and the excitement he will bring to the tournament.
