
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Bahrain for a two-day visit, receiving a guard of honor at Qasr Al-Qudaibiya. He met Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to strengthen bilateral ties. The visit focuses on economic, defense, and people-to-people cooperation.
Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Crown Prince for the warm reception and congratulated Bahrain on its two-year UN Security Council non-permanent seat. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to deepen cooperation during this tenure. Both leaders discussed economic opportunities, including boosting trade currently over $550 million.

The prime minister outlined plans to raise bilateral trade to $1 billion within three years through the Pakistan-GCC Free Trade Agreement and eased visa rules. He invited Bahraini investors to explore sectors such as food security, IT, healthcare, renewable energy, construction, mining, and tourism.

Shehbaz Sharif proposed enhancing port-to-port connectivity between Karachi/Gwadar and Khalifa Bin Salman Port and recognized Bahrain’s support for over 150,000 Pakistani residents. Both nations agreed to expand collaboration in higher education, technical training, and digital governance.

Defense and security cooperation also featured prominently, with discussions on joint training, cyber security, defense production, and intelligence sharing. The leaders addressed the recent situation in Gaza, agreeing on the importance of peace and stability for its long-suffering population.
The visit aims to reinforce strategic, economic, and diplomatic ties while deepening people-to-people links. Shehbaz Sharif will also meet Bahrain’s king, vice prime minister, and senior officials to finalize cooperation agreements.
