
The Israeli military launched a new counterterrorism operation in northern West Bank on Wednesday. It targets northern Samaria. Officials said it is separate from the January 2025 campaign in Palestinian refugee camps.

Violence in the West Bank has surged since the Hamas attack on Israel triggered the Gaza war in October 2023. The unrest continues despite a fragile truce in Gaza since October 10. Israeli troops or settlers have killed over 1,000 Palestinians since the war began.
At least 44 Israelis, including soldiers and civilians, have died in Palestinian attacks or military operations. The escalating violence has heightened tensions and drawn international concern. Analysts warn of more clashes if calm is not maintained.
