
The Punjab government has introduced a new ordinance that sets strict fines for drivers who break traffic rules, aiming to improve road safety across the province. The law, approved by the governor, increases penalties for speeding, signal violations, and smoke-emitting vehicles, ensuring that all categories of drivers feel responsible for safer roads.
Under the ordinance, motorcyclists speeding or violating traffic signals will now face a fine of Rs2,000, while car drivers committing similar offences will pay Rs5,000. Meanwhile, three-wheeler drivers violating signals will be fined Rs3,000, creating a clearer structure that holds every motorist accountable for their actions on the road.

Additionally, the government has focused on controlling vehicle emissions, as smoke-emitting motorcycles will be fined Rs2,000 and polluting cars will face an Rs8,000 penalty. Three-wheelers producing smoke will be fined Rs3,000, whereas larger transport vehicles emitting smoke will face the highest penalty of Rs15,000 to address serious air pollution concerns.
Moreover, the ordinance introduces strict fines for overloading, with three-wheelers paying Rs3,000, cars below 2,000cc paying Rs5,000, and cars above 2,000cc paying Rs10,000. Tractor-trolley drivers caught overloading will face a heavy fine of Rs15,000, reinforcing the government’s commitment to reducing road hazards caused by overloaded vehicles.

Furthermore, high-engine-capacity cars will face stricter charges, as 2,000cc vehicles will be fined Rs10,000 and cars above 2,000cc will be charged Rs15,000 for violations. These measures aim to create discipline among drivers, reduce road accidents, and support a safer and cleaner traffic environment for all citizens.
