‘This is goodbye’: Ali Tareen quits Multan Sultans

Published on: November 25, 2025 8:26 PM

Pakistan Super League franchise owner Ali Tareen has announced his departure from Multan Sultans, marking a major shift for the team. He shared the decision through a social media post, describing it as one of the toughest choices of his life. He said representing South Punjab was a deep honour and a responsibility he never took lightly.

Tareen told fans that the Sultans were more than a business to him, even as the franchise faced financial losses each year. He said the team reflected the spirit of South Punjab, where people work hard, fight for their rights, and face daily challenges with strength. He added that he always reminded players that supporters forgive losses, but never a lack of effort.

However, Tareen explained that he could not continue if it required compromising his principles. He said he had always spoken openly and refused to “play safe” or follow instructions he did not believe in. If staying meant giving up those values, leaving was the only option he could accept.

He stated that he would rather lose the team standing on his feet than run it on his knees. Calling the moment a farewell, he asked fans to remember that the Sultans belong to them and to South Punjab, not to any owner. He urged supporters to back whoever takes charge next, promising they would still find him cheering from the stands.

The announcement comes days after the PCB issued a notice to Tareen for alleged contract violations and for damaging the PSL’s reputation — a notice he publicly tore up.
