KARACHI: Two icons of Pakistani pop music are back. Ali Haider, remembered for his 1994 hit Purani Jeans, has joined forces with Ali Zafar, who rose to fame in the 2000s with hits like Channo and Chal Dil Mere, to reimagine Haider’s song Zalim Nazron Se. The track, released Friday along with a music video, marks the first single from Zafar’s first studio album in 15 years.

Originally performed by ghazal singer Jawaid Akhtar in 1979, the song’s lyrics were written by Roshan Naginavi. According to a press release, the decision to revisit the track reflects Zafar’s vision of bridging Pakistan’s musical heritage with a contemporary audience. Fans can expect a fresh arrangement while staying true to the essence of the original composition.

Speaking about the collaboration, Haider said, “Recreating this classic with Ali Zafar was truly special. The idea came from him, and the moment I heard it, I knew we could bring something beautiful to life.” Zafar described Haider as “an icon who shaped the soundtrack of our youth” and called it “an honour and a joy” to work together on the track.

The music video is a nostalgic nod to the golden era of Pakistani pop, featuring flashy cars, professional dancers, and close-up shots of both singers in stylish sunglasses. The production is larger in scale than typical contemporary videos, aiming to capture the spirit of the 90s pop scene.
