A crackdown has been tightened against criminals and traffic violators in Lahore city.
Citizens are warned to be careful when violating traffic rules. Now, every camera will issue a challan. After the success of the pilot project in Lahore, the system will be upgraded in other major cities of Punjab.
Captain (retd) Mustansar Feroze, a concerned official of the Safe Cities Authority Headquarters in Lahore, announced that the software for more than 5,000 cameras in Safe City Lahore has been upgraded. With this new software, these cameras will now be capable of performing ANPR and facial recognition.
Previously, there were automated number plate readers and special cameras for facial recognition. While talking to Daily Times, Capt (R) Mustansar Feroze further said that the software update has made a big difference in the ratio of e-challaning. With the software update, the verification of e-challans is also being done on the basis of AI instead of staff.
Initially, the new software has been upgraded in Lahore. In the next phase, new software will be upgraded in other smart cities as well.
