PESHAWAR: At least 27 militants were killed and several others wounded during security operations in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials and sources said on Wednesday. The operations targeted terrorist hideouts in Kurram, Bajaur, North Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, and Bannu districts.
In Kurram district, an intelligence-based operation in Manato and Marzai areas led to the deaths of 22 militants who were reportedly hiding in residential zones and had planted explosives in a house. Some security personnel were injured in an explosion, but locals remained unharmed. No official statement has yet been issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) regarding the Kurram operation.

The ISPR confirmed that in Bannu, an Indian-sponsored terrorist was eliminated while attempting to plant an improvised explosive device targeting civilians. The military’s media wing highlighted that such failed attacks reflect the diminishing capabilities of terrorist groups in the face of ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
Earlier operations in Bajaur, North Waziristan, and Dera Ismail Khan districts neutralised several militants. In Bajaur, one terrorist was killed after an intense exchange of fire, while multiple militants were eliminated in North Waziristan’s Spinwam and Zakir Khel areas. In Dera Ismail Khan, security forces killed another militant during an intelligence-based operation.
In Lakki Marwat, two militants were killed in an exchange of fire with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Sraye Norang area. The deceased were later identified as Mohammad Sohail and Azmatullah, alias Hafiz. Authorities said the militants opened fire on the CTD team, who retaliated effectively to neutralise the threat.
