Mirwaiz, Yasin arrested in occupied Kashmir

Published on: November 15, 2017 5:14 PM

LAHORE: Over two dozen Hurriyat leaders and activists including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have been arrested by the Indian police in Srinagar on Wednesday.

A huge contingent of Indian police stopped and arrested Mirwaiz and Yasin when they were going to address a protest at Lal Chowk against Indian atrocities and the plight of Kashmiri detainees in jails.

Kashmiri people raised pro-Pakistan and pro-freedom slogans at this occasion. The protesters condemned military operation in south Kashmir where people including women and children were being targeted in houses. They urged international community to take notice of India’s inhuman attitude towards illegally detained Kashmiris in jails and demanded their release.

Earlier, addressing a press conference, Mirwaiz and Yasin condemned the brutalities of Indian forces in Kashmir and the repeated invoking of black law, Public Safety Act, against unlawfully detained Kashmiris.

They also criticised ‘puppet’ Chief Minister Mehboba Mufti for adhering to extremist ideology of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Kashmir. Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) addressed the press conference over phone from his residence.
