Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Transport Department is consistently working to improve travel facilities across the province and that citizens will hear more good news soon. He said the Sindh government has expanded the Pink Bus service to support women. Pink BRT buses have begun operating from Numaish Chorangi to Surjani, and soon pink buses will also run on the Edhi Orange Line BRT and the Green Line. He added that the Prime Minister and the chief ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab have also been asked to introduce similar services for women in their provinces.
Speaking to the media at the launch of the special Pink Bus service for women on the Green Line BRT route, the senior minister, who also holds the portfolio for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, said special bikes are being prepared for children with disabilities and will be provided free of cost. He said the distribution process will be completed through daily meetings. He added that providing facilities to every segment of society is a shared responsibility and the Transport Department is working with this goal in mind.
He said double-decker buses will arrive in the province next week and will first operate on Shahrah-e-Faisal. Routes may be expanded if needed. New buses are being introduced as pilot projects on the corridor and BRT systems, and they have received positive feedback from the public.
He said outstanding issues have been settled with the Asian Development Bank. An open briefing on transport projects will be held in Karachi with all political parties and stakeholders present. He added that the Sindh government is providing free fertilizer to farmers and that wheat cultivation will increase through subsidies.
He said that under the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, ownership rights to houses for two million flood-affected people have been granted to women. The Benazir Income Support Program was also launched to support women’s economic independence, and he noted that President Asif Zardari had initiated BISP.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that in the past, families were not targeted in politics and that personal attacks on family members are inappropriate. He said Faryal Talpur was arrested in false cases and moved from a hospital to jail on Chand Raat, adding that women from all political parties deserve respect.
He said equality and uniformity have been strengthened through constitutional amendments. Criticism of these amendments is unwarranted, he added, as major bar associations have supported them.
He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had promised to provide buses and should now fulfill that commitment. The Sindh government, he added, is working for all segments of society and will continue improving the transport sector.
