Security high alert in Rawalpindi after Islamabad suicide attack

Published on: November 12, 2025 12:58 AM

According to Rawalpindi Police, following the suicide attack in Islamabad, a security high alert was issued for Rawalpindi.

Security arrangements for the ongoing One-Day International Match (ODI) match in Rawalpindi have been tightened further,” the police said in a statement.

The foolproof security and alternative traffic arrangements were causing difficulties for citizens.

“Due to ongoing development projects in Rawalpindi, important roads in the city are also closed, causing the flow of traffic to be diverted towards the adjacent areas and streets,” he said.

Later in the day, Naqvi, who is also the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), visited the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and reviewed in detail the security arrangements for the ongoing match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

According to a press release, Naqvi reiterated that the Sri Lankan team has been accorded the status of State Guests and assured that their security will be ensured at all costs. “He stressed that maintaining peace and stability, along with promoting sports and other activities, is a collective goal.”

Persistent security and traffic arrangements remained in place on Tuesday by the Rawalpindi Police for the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka ODI (One Day International) at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium to ensure the safety of players and spectators.

Over 5,500 police personnel were deployed across the city, with more than 350 traffic officers managing vehicle flow in areas surrounding the stadium. Senior officers were also on-site, closely supervising operations and providing continuous briefings to the deployed forces.

Snipers were stationed on rooftops, while an extensive CCTV network monitored the entire vicinity, supported by a dedicated control room for real-time oversight. Police mobile units, alongside the Elite and Dolphin Squads, maintained a visible security presence through continuous patrolling.

City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani assured the public that comprehensive measures would remain in place to provide a safe and smooth experience for spectators and participants during the Cricket Tri-Series.

Federal Minister for Interior and Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi visited the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and reviewed in detail the security arrangements for the ongoing Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka match.

Mohsin Naqvi reiterated that the Sri Lankan team has been accorded the status of State Guests and assured that their security will be ensured at all costs.

He stressed that maintaining peace and stability along with promoting sports and other activities is a collective goal.
