ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Tuesday ordered the blocking of passports of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Omar Ayub and Zartaj Gul and issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the party’s Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram in connection with the Sangjani rally case.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra directed authorities to submit a report after the passports were blocked and adjourned the hearing until December 3.
This development adds to the mounting legal challenges for the former ruling party, whose founder Imran Khan, along with senior leaders including Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Yasmin Rashid, remain in custody over alleged involvement in various incidents, notably the May 9 riots.

The case stems from a power show held by PTI in September 2024, which demanded Khan’s release from Rawalpindi Adiala Jail. Last month, the same court had already issued arrest warrants for Ayub, Gul, and Akram for failing to appear before the court.
Separately, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued notices to the home secretary, Adiala jail superintendent, and other officials in a contempt of court plea filed by PTI’s Salman Akram Raja, regarding the denial of a meeting with Imran Khan.
During the hearing, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir questioned why the meeting had not taken place despite earlier court orders. The assistant attorney general responded that the orders had been conveyed and further action would be taken.
