KARACHI: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) have agreed to strengthen cooperation to support Pakistan’s economic recovery. The move follows similar initiatives by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) aimed at uniting the business community to address ongoing economic challenges.

During a meeting at the KCCI on Saturday, KCCI President Rehan Hanif and LCCI President Faheem ur Rehman Saigol emphasized that inconsistent government policies and the neglect of the private sector continue to hinder growth. Both leaders agreed that closer collaboration between the chambers is vital to ensure that the business community’s concerns are reflected in national policymaking.

LCCI President Saigol noted that Pakistan’s economic resilience stems from its natural and human resources but warned that persistent mismanagement undermines the country’s true potential. “KCCI and LCCI are aligned in seeking a rightful role in policymaking. Legislation should be developed in consultation with the business community, which knows how tax collection can be made more effective,” he said, calling for a unified business voice.

Vice Chairman of the Businessmen Group (BMG), Anjum Nisar, highlighted that joint efforts by KCCI and LCCI — representing over 90 percent of Pakistan’s economic activity — would have considerable influence in pressing the government to address critical issues such as rising energy costs and shortages of water, gas, and electricity.

The renewed collaboration between the two chambers signals a growing consensus within the business community to demand consistent policies, improved governance, and a more conducive environment for sustainable economic growth.
