Islamabad: Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has revealed key details of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which was approved by the federal cabinet on Saturday. Among its proposals is granting the rank of Field Marshal as a ceremonial lifetime title to national heroes, while command authority will continue under existing laws.
The amendment also proposes the establishment of a Federal Constitutional Court to handle constitutional matters more efficiently. Additionally, the power to transfer judges will be given to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, with input from relevant high court chief justices, aiming to make the process more transparent.

Senate elections are set to be held simultaneously across the country, replacing the current practice of staggered elections every three years. Provincial cabinet sizes are also being expanded in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, increasing from 11% to 13% of assembly strength, and the number of advisers will rise from five to seven.
Other proposals include recognizing ceremonial military ranks for the Air Chief and Naval Chief, and addressing demands from MQM and BAP regarding local government reforms and provincial assembly seats. Efforts are underway to build political consensus, with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari agreeing to support certain provisions while deferring contentious points for later discussion.
