LAHORE – The Punjab government has extended the ban on using wheat in poultry feed across all feed mills for another 30 days, citing the need to secure sufficient wheat for human consumption.
According to a notification issued by the Home Department, the decision was taken to maintain a steady supply of wheat, flour, and bread for the public. The department enforced Section 144 across the province to prevent the diversion of wheat for non-food purposes. As per the Home Secretary’s directive, wheat may only be utilized by flour mills for the production of flour. The report highlighted that feed mills in Punjab currently possess over 100,000 metric tons of wheat, with some planning to use it for poultry feed production.

The Home Department reiterated that wheat is a basic food staple meant for human consumption, not for industrial use, and must remain reserved for flour production. The restriction has been imposed under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. The ban will remain in effect until December 1, unless withdrawn earlier by the authorities.
