Zohran: Fear has been defeated, and hope has triumphed

Zohran thanks every worker, tells Trump 'New York is and will remain a city of immigrants'
NEW YORK – Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani delivered an emotional and defiant victory speech on Tuesday night, thanking New Yorkers for their support and declaring that “fear has been defeated, and hope has triumphed.”

Addressing a jubilant crowd at his election night rally, the 34-year-old Democratic Socialist — who made history as New York City’s first Muslim and African-born mayor — said his win marked the beginning of a new political era.

“Let Trump hear this: New York is and will remain a city of immigrants,” Mamdani declared to thunderous applause. “The people have proven that power lies in their hands. We have ended dynastic politics in New York.”

He expressed deep gratitude to the youth and workers who powered his grassroots campaign, saying, “I thank the youth of New York for standing by me. The 12-month campaign made history because of you. I also thank the taxi drivers, chefs, and nurses — the people who keep this city alive.”

Mamdani pledged to create a New York “where the working class can live comfortably”, vowing to champion fair wages, workers’ rights, and affordable living. He also praised the over one thousand volunteers who fueled his campaign, describing their efforts as “a revolution of hope.”

Amid chants of “Mamdani! Mamdani!” from the crowd, the mayor-elect said, “What happened to us before wasn’t politics — politics begins now. We will not allow anyone to divide the people. There is no place for Islamophobia in New York. I will fight for the people because I am one of them.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusivity and justice: “Immigrants have built and strengthened New York. Starting January 1, we will form a city government that works for everyone. We will stand with unions for workers’ rights and ensure safety and justice for all.”

Ending on an optimistic note, Mamdani said, “In the darkness of politics, New York has emerged as a beacon of light. Today, fear has been defeated, and hope has triumphed. The only regret is that it took too long to see this day.”
