American DJ Diplo has made headlines after jokingly claiming that he dated both Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a recent podcast appearance. Speaking on the Smart Girl Dumb Questions podcast, the 46-year-old artist was discussing Perry, 41, whom he was briefly linked to back in 2014. “And now Katy Perry is dating Justin,” Diplo quipped, before adding, “Pretty fire.”
When host Nayeema Raza started to say she knew “so many people who kind of—,” Diplo interrupted her, saying, “Dated Katy Perry, like me?” and then doubled down with, “I did.” Raza clarified that she meant Trudeau, prompting Diplo to jokingly add, “I did date Trudeau too. That was a weird one though. I’m not into politicians.” The podcast later confirmed that the DJ’s comment about dating Trudeau was made in jest. Still, Diplo admitted Trudeau was “kind of hot,” agreeing with the host’s remark about the Canadian leader’s looks.

Diplo’s joke comes shortly after Katy Perry seemingly confirmed her rumoured romance with Justin Trudeau during her concert in Prague last week. The pair, first spotted dining together in Montreal in July, appeared to make their relationship public when they celebrated Perry’s 41st birthday in Paris last month. Perry recently ended her long-term relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a five-year-old daughter, Daisy. Meanwhile, Trudeau separated from his wife Sophie Grégoire in 2023; the former couple share three children, including 16-year-old Ella-Grace Margaret.
