The campaign to replace the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) with an independent Hockey Board is rapidly gaining momentum, with former Olympian Kashif Jawad extending his full support to the initiative.
In a statement, Jawad endorsed the remarks of PHF President Mir Tariq Hussain Bugti, who during a press conference in Quetta, also advocated for the formation of a Hockey Board. He said the move could transform Pakistan’s national sport by tackling long-standing financial constraints.
Jawad explained that a dedicated Hockey Board would generate its own revenue, ending reliance on external sources. “Once the board is established, all hockey stadiums will come under its jurisdiction, producing millions of rupees annually through management and advertising,” he said, adding that this would bring financial stability for players, coaches, and officials. Kashif Jawad, who represented Pakistan at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, played 180 international matches and scored 86 goals during his career.
The proposal for a Hockey Board has already received strong backing from PHF General Secretary and Olympian Rana Mujahid, former captain and legend Shahbaz Ahmed Senior, head coach Tahir Zaman, and team manager Muhammad Usman.
